From February 10 to 11, 2025, the Korea University GETPPP Alumni Meeting and Korea-Vietnam Semiconductor & Energy Forum was successfully held in Hanoi, Vietnam. The event was co-hosted by the Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), the Korea University Economic Research Institute, and the KU-GETPPP, focusing on cooperation in the semiconductor industry and renewable energy between Korea and Vietnam.

On February 10, Korea University faculty members and representatives from MOIT’s Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority held a meeting to discuss Vietnam’s revised Power Development Plan (PDP8) and strategies for expanding renewable energy. The Korea University delegation, consisting of Professors Kang Sung Jin, Lee Hong Sik, Kim Dukpa, and Kim Kyung Nam, attended the meeting along with Deputy General Director Bui Quoc Hung, Nguyen Van Anh, and Senior Expert Nguyen Huy Binh from the Vietnamese side. Discussions covered expanding wind and solar energy, strengthening policy implementation through academic and industrial collaboration, and long-term technical exchanges.

Later that day, a meeting with the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) took place, focusing on the development of Vietnam’s semiconductor industry. The Yongin Semiconductor Cluster project in Korea was introduced as a reference case, and discussions were held on Vietnam’s investments in semiconductor back-end packaging as well as the necessity for government-level support in the semiconductor industry.

On February 11, the GETPPP Alumni Meeting took place, aiming to strengthen the network between Korea University graduates in Vietnam and relevant industries while exploring potential academic and industrial collaborations. Later that day, the Korea-Vietnam Forum on Semiconductor Industry Promotion and Energy Resources was held at the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences' Institute of Economic Research, attended by 28 researchers and government officials. Key topics discussed included Vietnam’s semiconductor industry development policies, the sustainability of energy resources, and water management in the semiconductor sector.

This event served as a significant platform to enhance strategic cooperation between Korea and Vietnam in the fields of semiconductor industry development and renewable energy. The participating institutions agreed to continue collaborative research and technology exchanges, further strengthening bilateral cooperation in these critical sectors.
