Seoul, March 21, 2025 – The International Conference on Green Hydrogen and Economic Transformation took place today at Korea University’s SK Future Hall Room 522, as well as virtually via Zoom. Hosted by the KU-GETPPP, the event gathered academics, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss the evolving role of green hydrogen in economic and energy transformation.

The conference featured two key sessions focusing on green
hydrogen development and energy policy transitions. Professor Kyung Nam Kim,
from the Graduate School of Energy and Environment at Korea University,
moderated the first session titled Green Hydrogen and Economic Development.
Presentations covered various global hydrogen strategies, including Nepal’s
investment opportunities, Kenya’s stakeholder coordination, Indonesia’s energy
transition, and Thailand’s roadmap toward a low-carbon future. Among the key
speakers were Surya Kumar Sapkota from Nepal’s Alternative Energy Promotion
Center and Jane Mbogo from Kenya Electricity Generating Company. The second session, Energy Policy and Transition, was moderated by
Professor Sung Jin Kang, Director and Professor at KU-GETPPP. Discussions
centered on coal downstreaming in Indonesia, electricity consumption in
Myanmar, and Ethiopia’s transition pathways. Notable speakers included Adrianus
from Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Shanko Feyisa Bekele from Ethiopia’s
Petroleum and Energy Authority.

Research Professor Shijun Cao from KU-GETPPP opened the event alongside Professor Kyung Nam Kim, emphasizing the importance of global collaboration in green hydrogen policy and economic sustainability. With its wide-ranging discussions and insights, the conference marked a significant step toward fostering a greener energy future in Asia and beyond.
