The GETPPP held its 2025 Spring Workshop in Jeju from April 6 to 8, combining site visits, cultural experiences, and an international conference focused on green energy policies and sustainability.

The program began with visits to Seongeup Folk Village and the traditional performance Arirang Soul, offering participants an immersive introduction to Korea’s rural heritage and artistic traditions. A walk through Saryeoni Forest followed, highlighting the island’s ecological richness and Korea’s efforts in environmental preservation. The day concluded with a working session reviewing progress on national database reports on green hydrogen policies around the world.
On April 7, participants toured the CFI Energy Future Center operated by Jeju Energy Corporation, gaining insights into Jeju’s Carbon-Free Island initiative, including renewable energy technologies and smart grid systems.

The afternoon featured an international conference titled “Green Energy Policies and Economic Sustainability”, where government officials and researchers from countries including Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Cameroon, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, Ethiopia, and Botswana presented case studies. Discussions explored the potential and challenges of green hydrogen development, carbon trading systems, and strategies for achieving net-zero emissions. Experts emphasized the need for regulatory reform, international collaboration, and stakeholder engagement to enable successful energy transitions.

The event also included an alumni meeting, strengthening connections among past and current GETPPP participants. The workshop concluded on April 8 with a visit to Orion’s Jeju Lava Water Plant, where attendees learned about corporate environmental responsibility and ESG-based business practices, highlighting the intersection of sustainable resource management and industry innovation. Overall, the GETPPP Jeju Workshop served as a platform for global knowledge exchange and policy dialogue on green energy, while fostering academic and professional networks committed to sustainable development. |
